Deal with large and old files
(Updated: )CleanMyMac simplifies one of the most time-consuming cleanup tasks – reviewing and managing files. It identifies the biggest files in a location of your choice – whether it's your user folder or an external drive – grouping them by type, size, and access date. This way, instead of searching through every folder, you can quickly review a list of well-organized files.
CleanMyMac scans your Mac or connected devices and filters files that take up at least 50 MB of space. It's important to note that CleanMyMac doesn't provide advice in this module, leaving the decisions up to you.
To find, review, and remove large and old files:
In CleanMyMac, click My Clutter in the sidebar.
From the dropdown list, select the location to scan.
Click Scan to begin, and wait for the results.
To rescan, click Start Over on the upper left, confirm, and click Scan again.
Click Review All Files, then select the Large & Old Files category.
This category contains files that are large and may be unnecessary because you haven't accessed them in a while.
CleanMyMac doesn't automatically select files for removal since these files might contain useful data.
You can view all files at once, only selected ones, or in groups: by kind, size, or access date.
Right-click a file to:
- Select it for removal
- Reveal it in Finder
- Get file info
- Preview it via Quick Look
After reviewing, click Remove to delete the selected files.
Files are deleted permanently, bypassing the Trash.
CleanMyMac only removes items in the currently viewed category. For example, if you select items in the Duplicates category, then select files in the Large & Old Files category and click Remove there, CleanMyMac will only delete files in the Large & Old Files category.
