Turn background scanning on or off

(Updated: )

While you can turn off background scanning, we recommend keeping it active for optimal safety. It uses minimal system resources and won't slow down your Mac.

  1. Open the CleanMyMac Menu, click the gear icon in the lower-right corner, then choose Settings.

Alternatively, open CleanMyMac, then go to CleanMyMac > Settings in the menu bar (upper-left corner of your screen).

  2. Go to the Protection tab, then select or deselect the option to look for threats in the background.

If background scanning is off, you can also turn it back on directly from the CleanMyMac Menu. For this, click the Protection monitor to open the detailed view, then click Turn On in Background Scan.
