Explore scan results

(Updated: )

During a Space Lens scan, CleanMyMac creates a visual map of what's taking up the most space on your disk. When the map's ready, you'll see a list of top-level folders and files sorted by size (largest first) alongside their bubbles—the bigger the bubble, the more storage the item takes.

The list and bubbles show only the heaviest items; click Other items in the list to reveal everything else.

When you hover over a bubble or a list entry, CleanMyMac highlights that item in both views and displays basic info.

Above the results list, Space Lens shows the storage space breakdown chart. Hover over a segment in the chart to see how much space is:

  • Used
  • Free
  • Purgeable—this represents space occupied by temporary system files that macOS removes automatically if needed. You can safely delete them using the Performance module.
  • Selected—this represents space taken by the items you've selected; it'll be reclaimed after cleanup.

Browse results

To navigate and explore the results in details:

  • Double-click a folder in the list or click its bubble to dive in and explore its contents.

  • Use the left and right angle bracket buttons (< and >) above the bubbles to move back or forward along your browsing trail.

  • Click a breadcrumb above the bubbles to jump directly to that folder.

  • Double-click the empty area around the bubbles (not on a bubble) to move up one level in the hierarchy.

Use quick actions

When you see an item you're interested in, you can use quick actions on it. For this, right-click the item in the list or the respective bubble, then choose what to do:

  • Select item
  • Show item in Finder
  • Get item details
  • Preview item

Select items

To select an item for removal in Space Lens:

To select all items in the current folder, click Select above the list, then choose Select All.

When you explore scan results in Space Lens, you may see some items you can't select for removal—these are system files and folders that macOS needs to run properly. To keep your Mac safe and operable, CleanMyMac doesn't suggest or delete them.

Once you've finished browsing and exploring scan results, and selected items you want to get rid of, review and remove them.
